Some interrestings citations:

Germany – you jammy bastards! I’m really feeling for Turkey right now, yet again they played a key part in one of the tournament’s most dramatic games, making the most of their limited resources that were even more depleted than usual through injuries and suspensions brought on by lung-busting efforts in previous games.
And bloody hell did they push Germany hard tonight. In fact, for a long time, the tournament favourites barely saw the ball. Turkey could already have been ahead before Boral knocked in, and when Schweinsteiger equalised there was a strong sense of it coming against the run of play. Klose gave them the lead following Rustu’s cock-up, but you almost knew that there was another twist – Semih making it 2-2. Shame there was one more twist after that, as Lahm compensated for a poor game defensively by scoring with a great finish.

in The Great Euro 2008 Pub Challenge

Turkey found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline in yet another exciting Euro 2008 match. I cannot remember a tournament that has had so many last minute goals to decide a match.
In the Euro 2008 semifinal between Germany and Turkey it looked as though the match was heading into extra time before a late goal to Germany’s Philipp Lahm settled the affair in the 90th minute. This time there was no amazing comeback from Turkey.
The fact that Turkey had levelled the match with an 86th-minute strike from Semih Sentürk was dramatic enough.
You would have been a supreme optimist to think the Turkish side would be able to summon one last dramatic equaliser. You can only do this so many times. Just like the run of Dinara Safina in the French Open where twice she came back from seemingly lost positions it is tough to do it four times running.

Germany coach Joachim Löw said his side were lucky to book a place in the Euro 2008 final with their last-gasp 3-2 semi-final win against Turkey on Wednesday.
“Turkey were very strong technically and there were sections of the game when we couldn’t get a grip,” Löw said after watching his team fight back from conceding an early goal before securing victory with a 90th-minute Philipp Lahm goal.
“We saw how Turkey had come back three times at this tournament to turn games completely on their head, so we knew what was coming. In the last few minutes we were trembling but we were lucky enough to score in the 90th minute.
“We were pretty convinced then that they wouldn’t be able to come back for a fourth match.”
“Turkey were combining excellently in midfield, though, so I thought it was the right choice to stick with one forward and not sacrifice our strength in midfield,” the coach added.
